Requirements for a Student Visa
To be eligible for a Student visa, applicants must first be enrolled in a CRICOS-registered course of study.
In addition to health and character requirements, applicants must also:
- be 6 years of age or older
- have adequate welfare arrangements for students under 18 years of age
- meet English language requirements
- demonstrate that they are a Genuine Student by setting out their reasons for study and how this will benefit them in future
- hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) (or fall in one of the exemption categories)
- evidence of financial capacity to cover tuition, living, and travel costs
Applicants in Australia must hold an eligible visa in order to apply while onshore. It is not possible to lodge a Student visa application in Australia while holding a Visitor visa, Transit visa, Maritime Crew visa, or a Graduate visa.
Existing Student visa holders applying for another Student visa while in Australia must clearly demonstrate course progression to be considered for a further visa.
