With Skilled Migration quotas at an all-time low and fierce competition for a State Nomination, migrants must ensure they lodge a strong Expression of Interest (EOI) for the best chance of securing an invitation.

Our Agents have seen a number of errors made by applicants that can not only cost them an opportunity but can end up wasting a precious invitation once received.

Common mistakes

Relationship

  • Incorrectly stating that the applicant is single when they have a de facto partner
  • Failing to update a lodged EOI with a change of relationship status
  • Marrying or entering into a de facto relationship after an invitation is received

Partner Skills

  • Not realising they may be able to claim partner skills points due to confusion with occupation lists
  • Claiming points for partner English without a formal test or exempt passport

Australian Study

  • Believing that all study in Australia counts. To claim points, applicants must meet specified requirements about the length of study, qualification received, and visa held

English

  • Stating the applicant has Proficient and Superior English without a formal test. An exempt passport only counts for Competent English and attracts 0 points

Work Experience

  • Claiming work experience without having the appropriate reference letters and pay documentation available, then not being able to obtain them
  • Declaring work experience as being related to the nomination where ANZSCO does not support this

Document expiry

  • Failing to note that skills assessments and English tests have expired. These must be valid at the time of invitation.
