The Australian Government has announced upcoming changes to the cost of applying for citizenship. Application fees will increase from 1 July 2025.

Individuals who apply before this date will not be affected, so those considering citizenship are encouraged to act early to avoid higher costs.

New fees from 1 July 2025 will include:

  • Citizenship by descent: increasing from $360 to $370
  • Citizenship by conferral (general eligibility): from $560 to $575
  • Citizenship by conferral (citizenship test not required, e.g. 60+ years): from $345 to $350
  • Evidence of Australian citizenship: from $275 to $280

While the citizenship process can be relatively straightforward, applicants who don’t meet one or more eligibility criteria may benefit from professional support. At AVIE, our registered migration agents can help ensure your application is completed correctly the first time.

If you’re planning to apply for Australian citizenship soon, now is a great time to start.
