From 1 July 2026, the cost of applying for citizenship increased for all applicants.
New fees from 1 July 2026 are as follows:
- Citizenship by descent: $380
- Citizenship by descent for additional sibling: $160
- Citizenship by conferral (general eligibility): $595
- Citizenship by conferral (citizenship test not required, e.g. 60+ years): $380
- Evidence of Australian citizenship: from $275 to $280
Fees are per applicant, apart from children under 16 included with an eligible parent’s Citizenship application, who are free.
The biggest increase has been the Subclass 155 Resident Return visa fee, jumping from $490 to a whopping $1,475 per applicant!
It is now more important than ever to ensure that permanent visa holders maintain clear ties to Australia if they do intend to spend time living overseas during the life of their visas.
