If you’re planning to apply for an Australian Partner visa, it’s crucial to gather and submit the right evidence to support your application. A marriage certificate or registered relationship certificate is not enough on its own; you need documents proving you are in a genuine and committed relationship.

Relationship Evidence:

There are four aspects of a relationship that are assessed by Immigration:

Shared Household

Proof of living at the same residential address such as a lease agreement, rental receipts, utility bills, payslips, insurance, online orders, and other mail.

Social

Statements from family and friends (statutory declarations) supporting your relationship, photos of you together, social media posts, joint invitations, greeting cards, and evidence of joint participation in social activities.

Financial

Joint and individual bank account statements, shared bills, property leases or mortgages in both names, joint ownership of assets, money transfers to each other, etc.

Nature of Commitment

Communication records (emails, messages, or call logs) that show regular and consistent contact.  Evidence of long-term plans, such as wills naming each other as beneficiaries or joint life insurance policies.

Relationship Statement:

The couple should provide a statement detailing the history of the relationship, including how they met, significant events in the relationship, household arrangements, and plans for the future.

Important Tips:

Be Thorough: The more comprehensive your evidence, the better your chances of success. Ensure all documents are clear, show dates to prove the length of your relationship, and are properly translated into English (if necessary).

Be Consistent: Your evidence should be consistent across all documents and align with the information provided in your application forms.
