So far in 2025, the National Innovation Visa (NIV) program has received around 9,000 Expressions of Interest, with approximately 300 exceptional candidates invited to apply in the latest round.
The majority of invitations went to Tier One candidates, reflecting the Department’s continued focus on exceptional global talent and individuals demonstrating outstanding achievements in priority sectors.
Each EOI is considered in line with the NIV program priorities and indicators of exceptional and outstanding achievement. Invitations are issued according to the following priority order:
- Priority One: Global experts and recipients of international ‘top of field’ level awards.
- Priority Two: Candidates nominated by an Australian Commonwealth, State or Territory Government agency.
- Priority Three: Exceptional achievers in Tier One sectors.
- Priority Four: Exceptional achievers in Tier Two sectors.
It’s important to note that an invitation to apply does not guarantee visa approval. Each application is carefully assessed based on its merits and supporting documentation.
With another invitation round expected in December, now is an ideal time for exceptional individuals to submit their EOI for the National Innovation Visa.
