Do you need a skills assessment for a 485 visa?

Applicants for the 485 Post-Vocational Education Work stream visa are required to provide a positive skills assessment in their nominated occupation to be granted the visa. This should also be related to their course of study in Australia.

Each occupation has a dedicated assessing body. Assessments from other organisations will not be accepted.

Some examples include:

  • Chef – Trades Recognition Australia (TRA), or one of their approved RTOs

  • Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson – Engineers Australia or VETASSESS

  • Childcare Centre Manager – Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality (ACEQCA)

  • Management Consultant – VETASSESS

  • Welfare Centre Manager – Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA)

  • Telecommunications Network Planner – Engineers Australia

  • Cabinet Maker - Trades Recognition Australia (TRA)

  • Primary Health Organisation Manager – VETASSESS

Evidence of having applied for the skills assessment must be provided at visa lodgement.
